Your challenge
Philips challenges you to use your engineering expertise to model, design and implement some of the world’s most demanding motion control and precision positioning systems for industries such as semiconductor manufacturing and medical imaging. This is executed in an environment with a variety of customers and projects, where own initiative and system thinking are vital for success. Your contributions can range from early customer contacts and project definitions to the ramp-up and sustaining of volume production.
Your responsibilities
Your responsibilities as a System Architect within Philips Innovation Services will include:
•You will be directly responsible for the architecture in major projects, which have a long-term character, are complex, and are divided in several sub-projects for the creation of subsystems. This also acquires involvement in software and hardware designs.
•You will make principle choices for the system architecture with subsystems and interfaces.
•You will also be responsible for the overall architecture, interfacing and introduction of new technology and methods.
•You will lead a team of architects and designers who are involved in the total project.
•You will be involved in long-term definition and development of hardware or software platforms.

The Mechatronics department of Philips Innovation Services, with approximately 200 employees, is unique in its system design approach which has lead to many practical solutions for our customers. Think of breakthrough solutions in smooth motion, high accuracy positioning, and mechanical construction in e.g. lithography systems and magnetic levitation stages. We are active in equipment as well as sub-system design, prototyping and testing. Next to that a lot of our mechatronics solutions are applied in consumer products and healthcare systems. You will be working in multi-disciplinary teams of highly skilled technical experts from both Philips Innovation Services and its customers.
The High Precision System -group within the Mechatronics department is a group of over 38 specialists in several technology fields. As a System Architect you will lead a team of (junior) architects and designers who are involved in the total project. You report directly to the Department Head of the High Precision System – group and indirectly to the Project-Leader.

Desired Skills & Experience
We are looking for
To be successful as a System Architect you have:
•A Masters degree in either mechanical or mechatronical engineering or an equivalent technical discipline
•Approximately 10 years system architecture experience in high tech, multi-disciplinary systems (ideally with the semiconductor industry)
•Broad technical knowledge or experience with mechatronics, fine mechanics, dynamics & controls, thermal behavior, control, materials behavior, metrology (positioning and measurement)
•Experience in translating customer needs into technical requirements and then clearly defining the complete architectural needs to project members
•Customer centric attitude, interest in executing R&D projects for customers, flexible and cooperative
•The energy, enthusiasm and motivational power and ability to inspire the development of new high precision products for our customers.
